Thor vs Indra: Who Would Win?

Thor and Indra's battle would shake the heavens...
Gods Thor and Indra fighting.

Thor and Indra are both powerful gods of thunder, lightning, and storms from different mythologies. They have many similarities and differences in their abilities, weapons, and feats, but who would win if they fought each other?

Thor’s Feats

  • Thor is the son of Odin, the king of the gods, and Fjorgyn, the goddess of the earth. He is also the brother of Balder, the god of light and joy, and Loki, the trickster god.
  • Thor is known for his immense strength, courage, and loyalty. He is the protector of Asgard and Midgard (the world of humans), and often fights against the enemies of the gods, such as giants, dragons, and serpents.
  • Thor’s main weapon is his hammer Mjolnir, which means “crusher” or “lightning”. It was forged by two dwarves named Brokkr and Eitri as a gift for Odin. However, Loki interfered with their work and caused the handle to be shorter than intended. Despite this flaw, Mjolnir is still a formidable weapon that can crush mountains and create thunderbolts. It also has the ability to return to Thor’s hand after being thrown.
  • Thor also wears a belt of strength called Megingjord, which doubles his power, and a pair of iron gloves called Jarngreipr, which allow him to wield Mjolnir.
  • Thor has fought in many battles and wars throughout his long life. He is also more fearless and enjoys fighting. Some of his notable feats are:
    • He killed Jormungand, the world serpent that encircles the earth, during Ragnarok, the end of the world.
    • He lifted Jormungand out of the sea during a fishing trip with Hymir, a giant. He also broke Hymir’s fishing boat and killed several sea monsters with his hammer.
    • He defeated Geirrod, a giant king who tried to kill him with various traps and weapons. He also killed Geirrod’s daughters Gjalp and Greip, who tried to crush him with their legs.
    • He smashed Skrymir’s skull with his hammer while he was sleeping. Skrymir was a giant who disguised himself as a human and tricked Thor and his companions into sleeping in his glove.
    • He wrestled with Elli, an old woman who was actually old age in disguise. He managed to make her kneel before him.

Indra’s Feats

  • Indra is one of the oldest and most important gods in Hindu mythology. He is the leader of the Devas (gods) and the lord of Svarga (heaven). He is also one of the three supreme deities in Hinduism, along with Brahma (the creator) and Shiva (the destroyer). He is associated with various aspects of life, such as rain, fertility, war, kingship, and sovereignty.
  • Indra is depicted as a handsome and muscular man with golden skin, blue eyes, and four arms. He wears a crown, a necklace of pearls
  • Indra’s main weapon is his Vajra, which means thunderbolt or diamond. It is a club-like device that can shoot lightning bolts and destroy anything. It is similar to Mjolnir, but it does not have the same enchantments.
  • Indra also wields a discus called Sudarshana, which can cut through anything and fly back to his hand. He also rides a white elephant called Airavata, which has four tusks and seven trunks. He also has a bow called Vijaya, which can shoot arrows that never miss their target.
  • Indra has more incarnations than Thor, each with their own abilities and weapons. He can also change his size and form at will. He can become as small as an atom or as large as a galaxy. He can also create illusions and manipulate matter and energy with his mind.
  • He weilds the Brahmastra. It is a divine weapon that can destroy anything and anyone. It is said to be created by Brahma, the creator god, and can only be used once in a lifetime. It is also said to have devastating consequences for the user and the world.
  • Indra has performed many deeds and miracles in his long history. He is also more versatile and cunning than Thor. Some of his notable feats are:
    • He killed Vritra, a great evil that obstructed human prosperity and happiness by blocking the waters of the world. He used his Vajra to pierce through Vritra’s body and release the waters.
    • He released the cows from the cave of Vala, another evil being who stole them from the gods. He used his Vajra to break open the cave and free the cows.
    • He defeated Bali, a demon king who had conquered all the three worlds (heaven, earth, and underworld). He took the form of a dwarf and asked Bali for three steps of land as a gift. Bali agreed, but Indra then expanded his size and covered the three worlds with his three steps.
    • He created and destroyed multiple universes with his mind. He also summoned thousands of Brahmas, the creator gods, to help him in his tasks.

And To The Victor…

The battle between Thor and Indra would be a close one, but Indra would have a slight advantage over Thor. Indra’s versatility and reality manipulation would allow him to counter Thor’s attacks and overcome his defenses. Thor’s experience and aggression would make him a tough opponent for Indra, but not enough to defeat him.

In a hypothetical battle between Thor and Indra, Indra would win by a narrow margin. However, this does not mean that Thor is weak or inferior to Indra. Both gods are among the most powerful beings in their respective mythologies.

I would rate the difficulty of victory for Indra as 8 out of 10. It would be a hard-fought battle that would require him to use all his skills and resources. He would also face some risks and consequences for using his Brahmastra.
